The toponymy of the Gulf of the angels and the promontory of Sant'Elia are associated with a legend according to which God wanted to offer the angels a land as a gift in which to live as long as they search for it. After many attempts they found Sardinia, a place where the inhabitants lived serenely dedicated to sheep farming and agriculture. God kept his promise and the angels settled there. This fact caused Lucifer envy who tried to drive away the angels, but they opposed and waged a battle unleashing very high waves that made Lucifer jump from his steed. The Archangel Gabriel emerged triumphantly from the gulf with his sword in his hand while Lucifer, enraged, threw the saddle of his horse over the promontory of Sant'Elia at the same point where today you can see the ridge called precisely the Devil saddle.
